The G1 is the product of a collaboration between T-Mobile, HTC, and Google. It uses the Android operating system, a mobile derivative of Linux. The official T-Mobile website for the G1 is found here.

If you are thinking of owning a G1, take a look at the online emulator which gives a good idea of the interface and controls of the G1. While not fully featured it does give a good idea of how the device works.
